He was just 15 years old, the young Dieter, and he was already looking forward to getting his hands on radios and tube amplifiers. And it was precisely his first amplifier, with its decidedly poor performance, that prompted him to learn more about electronic and audio equipment.

After becoming a radio and television technician, he had the opportunity to build the first tube amplifier for his shows. For among other things, Dieter is also a musician. This varied background led him, in 1978, to found Burmester Audiosysteme GmbH. He was nothing more than a young man competing with the big names in Hi-Fi. But challenges certainly did not frighten him. He began producing his first amplifiers-just 20-and success overwhelmed him. In 1980 he introduced the first modular preamplifier, the Burmester 808, to the market. In 1987 it was the turn of the first belt-driven CD player. In 1994 came the big turn toward home audio, with the creation of the first loudspeakers. And finally, in 2002, the era of automotive equipment opened, with the system for the Bugatti Veyron 1.64. A dream car, on the other hand, deserved a dream sound.
